What does it really cost
to build a swimming pool?

Every pool is different, and so is the investment required to build it. Size matters — but so do the site, structure, finish, equipment, cover and the space surrounding it.

We help you understand those decisions from the beginning, so you can create the right pool for your home and your budget.

ITS NOT JUST THE SIZE OF THE POOL

No two Pools
Cost exactly the
Same.

A swimming pool isn't an off-the-shelf product.

A straightforward outdoor pool on an accessible, level site is very different from a pool on a sloping garden, a property with restricted access or a project involving complex ground conditions.

The right starting point isn't simply “How big a pool can I afford?” It's “What do I want this pool to add to my home?”

WHAT SHAPES THE INVESTMENT

01

SIZE AND DEPTH

More water means more excavation, structure, finishing and equipment.

02

Six things that
make  the difference

03

04

05

THE SITE

Access, ground conditions, slopes and groundwater can affect the construction required.

THE FINISH

Liner and tiled pools create different looks, specifications and budgets.

HEATING AND FILTRATION

The equipment should reflect how often and when you want to use the pool.

THE COVER

A well-designed cover can improve safety, reduce heat loss and make ownership easier.

06

THE

SURROUNDINGS

Copings, paving, landscaping and plant-room requirements all contribute to the finished project.

A REALISTIC INVESTMENT

What should you invest?

For the outdoor pools we design and build across West Sussex, Surrey and the surrounding areas...

A professionally designed and fully constructed outdoor swimming pool from Orbro will typically require an investment of around £80,000–£150,000 upwards, depending on the pool size, site conditions, specification, pool finish and surrounding landscaping works.

SPEND IT WHERE IT MATTERS

Bigger isn't
always better

A slightly smaller pool with an excellent cover, efficient heating, well-designed steps and beautifully considered surroundings can be far more enjoyable than simply putting the entire budget into more water.

Good pool design is about deciding where the investment will make the biggest difference to the way you actually use it.

EFFICIENT SWIMMING POOL DESIGN

Built to enjoy. Easy to own

A beautifully designed pool should be a pleasure to own as well as to use. We consider how your pool will heat, circulate, filter and retain energy from the very beginning — creating an efficient, reliable system that’s straightforward to look after and designed around the way you’ll actually use your pool.

EFFICIENT HEATING

Modern pool heating systems can bring your pool comfortably up to temperature while keeping energy use under control. Combined with good insulation and an effective pool cover, the right heating system can significantly reduce unnecessary heat loss and running costs.

RIGHT-SIZED EQUIPMENT

Bigger isn't always better. Pumps, pipework and plant should be correctly sized for the pool they're serving. We design each plant room as a complete system, providing reliable circulation and water treatment without unnecessary complexity or wasted energy.

MODERN FILTRATION

Good filtration is fundamental to clear, healthy water. We specify the filtration system around the size and intended use of each pool, making everyday water care simpler and helping the whole system operate as it should.

HEAT-RETAINING COVERS

A good pool cover is one of the most effective ways to reduce heat loss and evaporation. By retaining the energy you've already paid to put into the water, it can make a significant difference to both comfort and ongoing running costs.

How much does an outdoor
swimming pool cost to run in the uk?

There isn't one honest figure that applies to every outdoor swimming pool.

Running costs depend on the size of the pool, location, exposure to wind and weather, water temperature, length of the swimming season, electricity tariff and how effectively heat loss is controlled.

Location can make a significant difference. Two identical pools maintained at the same temperature can require different amounts of energy simply because one is in a sheltered, sunny location while another is more exposed or in a cooler part of the UK.

For most outdoor pools, heating and circulation are two of the main energy costs. Correctly sized pumps, modern inverter heat pumps and effective pool covers can all help reduce unnecessary energy consumption. A good cover is particularly important because it reduces both heat loss and evaporation when the pool isn't being used.

That's why we're cautious about quoting a universal “cost per day”. Without knowing the pool, its location and how it will be used, that figure can be misleading.

At Orbro, we consider running costs during the design and specification stage, selecting the heating, circulation, filtration and cover as a complete system appropriate for the individual pool.

The aim is a pool that's wonderful to own, but sensible and straightforward to run.

THE RIGHT POOL MEANS A SMART INVESTMENT

Start with what matters to you.

The cost of a swimming pool isn't simply about choosing a size and adding up the parts.

It's about deciding what you want the pool to add to your home and putting the investment into the things that will make the biggest difference.

Some families want a pool for long summer days with the children. Others want somewhere to swim every morning, entertain friends or simply enjoy a quieter part of the garden.

Once we understand how you want to use your pool, we can help you make sensible decisions about its size, specification, equipment and finish — and create a project around the investment you're comfortable making.
