CASE STUDY

Two Years Waiting. Ten Days Building.

After sitting unfinished for two years, this 11-metre swimming pool in Kent was transformed from an open excavation into a reinforced concrete pool shell in just 10 days on site.

With extremely restricted access, specialist swimming equipment and a customer planning to complete the finishing work himself, this project demonstrated how ClipBlox can simplify construction on challenging sites.

OUR INVOLVEMENT

Pool shell construction, tanking and pipework

Customer vision

With two children involved in competitive swimming, James wanted to create a swimming pool where they could train at home while providing somewhere for the whole family to enjoy.

The 11m × 4m pool would incorporate a Velocity swim jet from Lighthouse Pools, allowing the children to swim against a continuous current.

James had already excavated the pool, but the project had remained unfinished for two years. He needed an experienced team to construct the reinforced concrete shell and install the necessary fittings and pipework, leaving him free to complete the tanking and tiling himself.

Completed reinforced concrete swimming pool shell showing smooth concrete walls, pool floor and integrated seating, constructed using the ClipBlox permanent shuttering system by Orbro Pools.

The Challenge

Access was the biggest challenge.

The property had extremely restricted vehicle access, and a lorry had previously tipped over while attempting to enter the site. Conventional methods of delivering materials and concrete directly to the excavation would therefore be difficult.

The pool also needed a specially constructed external chamber to accommodate the Velocity swim jet.

Another important consideration was the finish of the concrete base. As James intended to tile the pool himself, we wanted to eliminate the need for additional screeding, saving him time and expense during the finishing stages.

Finished Results

From a two-year wait to a completed swimming pool shell in just 10 days.

Despite the difficult access and additional requirements of the specialist swim jet, Orbro delivered the 11m × 4m reinforced concrete pool shell in just 10 days on site.

With the structural work complete, fittings installed and pipework connected to the plant room, James could finally move forward with his project.

The shell is now ready for him to undertake the tanking and tiling himself.

This project demonstrates how the right construction method, combined with an experienced installation team, can make even challenging swimming pool projects achievable.
