Customer vision
James Youngman's swimming pool project was never going to be an ordinary installation.
The design called for a highly bespoke reinforced concrete swimming pool, with specialist water circulation, heating efficiency, filtration and cover requirements all considered from the outset.
Rather than constructing a conventional pool shell and adding equipment afterwards, many of the project's most important features needed to be incorporated directly into the concrete structure.
The objective was to create a swimming pool shell that could accommodate these specialist systems while maintaining the strength, flexibility and durability of reinforced concrete construction.
For Orbro, this was an opportunity to demonstrate just how adaptable the ClipBlox system can be when a swimming pool design goes well beyond the standard specification.

The Challenge
The complexity of this project lay in bringing together several unusual construction requirements within one coordinated reinforced concrete structure.
The pool incorporated steps embedded directly into the pool wall, requiring careful positioning and integration with the shell.
A gravity-fed pipe system also needed to be accommodated, alongside a balance tank, a bespoke cone chamber, a separate filter chamber and an underground dry plant room.
Thermal efficiency was another important consideration, with the entire pool shell requiring a continuous wrap of Ravatherm insulation.
Perhaps one of the most unusual features was the bespoke air-operated swimming pool cover. Its locking mechanism required eight accurately positioned rebates to be formed within the concrete structure to accommodate the cover's locking pins.
Each element had to be considered before the concrete was poured. Unlike fittings that can be repositioned later, embedded components and formed recesses need to be in the right place from the beginning.
With so many specialist systems involved, careful planning and coordination were essential.
Finished Results
James Youngman's swimming pool project demonstrates what can be achieved when a reinforced concrete shell is designed around the requirements of the entire swimming pool system.
From the embedded steps and gravity-fed pipework to the fully insulated shell, specialist filtration chambers and precision-formed cover locking rebates, every element required careful consideration during construction.
The project also highlights the versatility of ClipBlox. While the system simplifies the construction of conventional swimming pool shells, its adaptability makes it equally valuable when faced with unusual shapes, integrated components and complex technical requirements.
For Orbro, this project was about much more than constructing four walls and a floor.
It was about bringing together a series of bespoke engineering and construction details into one coordinated swimming pool structure.
A swimming pool shell designed around the system it needs to support, rather than the other way around.
